“Healthy soil = healthy food = healthy people” ~ Rodale Institute
This means that we recognize the Earth as not only our home, but a part of us. What we put into her soil directly effects the quality of our food and our physical health.
Just like our own body’s microbiome/gut health is essential for maintaining balance internally, our Earth’s soil must be alive with microorganisms in order to grow nutrient dense food.
Unfortunately, industrialized farming and over-tilling has degraded most of our soil today, damaging these ecosystems, releasing sequestered carbon into the atmosphere, and contributing to our climate crisis.
The good news is that it’s not too late… but it does require respecting our most essential relationship to Mother Nature and not taking her resources for granted. This can happen through taking action and becoming regenerative ‘stewards of the Earth’ to support the health of future generations.
Sue Elkind of Dig Yoga is honored to be an ambassador for the globally respected @rodaleinstitute, a nonprofit organization of regenerative, organic agriculture doing the rigorous research, farmer training, and consumer education needed to ultimately change how we treat our soil, grow our food and learn to live in harmony with this planet.
She is an herbalist, earth tender, and educator, and enjoys providing others with tools and knowledge to better connect with the earth and harness its healing power. She is committed to making a positive impact on the world by empowering people to take charge of their health and well-being through natural remedies and regenerative practices.

HERBALISM ON THE FARM—SUMMER SOLSTICE
Come spend the Summer Solstice in the healing, medicinal gardens at Rodale Institute and enjoy learning about the wonder of herbalism.
We will gather under the shaded Pavilion in the heart of the garden and begin our time sharing wisdom and sipping herbal tea infusions made from the plants growing around us. Our tour through the intimate garden will include the medicinal properties of plants such as Calendula, Yarrow, Lemon Balm, St. John’s Wort, Comfrey, Holy Basil, and more!
Following the tour, we will demonstrate how to make a medicinal topical infused oil with St. John’s Wort flowers and Comfrey harvested from the garden. We hope that you will feel inspired to continue incorporating these herbal allies into your own garden and life!
Afterwards, we invite you to join us for a celebratory & ceremonial bonfire in honor of the Summer Solstice. We will discuss the importance of honoring the Solstices & Equinoxes across cultures & how that is tied into agricultural cycles of seeding, tending, & harvesting.
Bring your own blanket so we can all sit together! Space is limited to 50 participants, so please register below to save your spot.
